DIY – Portable Solar Power – The Practical Freezer Test – PART 3

This video is the 3rd of a 3 part series to show what a homemade portable solar generator could do in a power outage. Conclusion: A portable solar generator can be a practical alternative to gas generators. When used with adequate planning and preparation, they will run a small compact freezer for extended periods without commercial power. Freezer packs, ice packs, etc will enhance the longevity of the battery between recharging by assisting in maintaining a constant temperature within the freezer thereby decreasing the number of times the compressor has to activate. ****SPECIFICS***** The freezer is 5.0 cu ft, 115V, 1.69Amps, and Startup Amps = 12A. All of this is on the label. After initial startup the kill-a-watt’s average read of the freezer is 96 Watts at .99Amps to 1.04Amps. I finished the experiment at 5:00 pm with an ending voltage of 11.19v (starting voltage was 13.07v). I started charging the battery with a speed charger (12v at 4Amps “medium battery setting”) around 5:30 pm so after aprox 5.5 hrs of charging, the battery was at 12.45v. DIY – Home Solar Hybrid – Standalone – Grid Tie – Done!!

Well, I think I’ve finally finished my home solar project. After doing a lot of reading, I believe I have an otherwise decent and safe system. I tried to design it around the NEC’s Article 690 as much as “practical”. I’ve added additional components, and changed a few things around. It’s been an enjoyable and worthwhile learning experience. I read “free” books on design, operation & maintenance, and safety, along with referencing the National Electrical Code in relation to PV systems. After playing with my new Grid Tie inverter, I’m convinced that it’s a good addition to any system that produces 500+ Watts of power. My system is not the best and my way is not the only way to implement a home system, but I hope my ideas helps someone along the way. For those that wish to truly learn about Stand-Alone PV system design etc, the following are excellent free books I downloaded and used: 1.) Stand-Alone Photovoltaic Systems – (by Sandia National Labs) 2.) Maintenance And Operation of Stand-Alone Photovoltaic Systems (Sandia) 3.) Working Safely with Photovoltaic Systems (Sandia National Labs) 4.) Photovoltaic Power Systems And the 2005 NEC: Suggested Practices Simply google the titles and download the pdf’s, and your good to go. Good Fortune, and have fun. Latest Diagram: dc112.4shared.com

DIY – Home Solar Power Part #4 “Safety First Update”

Just an update to show that even though it’s good to have a solar backup system, it can also be dangerous if adequate safeguards are not in place. I’m on my 3rd inverter after my 2000 Watt (Continuous) Pure Sine wave inverter “burned” out on me when I plugged in a 1600 Watt household iron (it was the Shark brand iron). I thought it was 1500 Watts when making the video. Anyway, you would think that a 2000 Watt inverter could handle it,,, well no it didn’t. It didn’t even trip the overload protection in the inverter. Just literally burned out. Link to my updated system schematic is below: dc415.4shared.com

DIY Solar Electricity – Build Your Own Solar Panels to Generate DIY Electricity !

www.SolarPoweredHome.us – So,you are interested in knowing how to generate power and reduce your electricity bills, than you have come to the right place. With the ever increasing costs of living and global warming, there should be better time when we stop throwing money out the window and save some by starting to generate our own electricity. Whether you want to simply cut your power bills to half or completely eliminate them the one stop solution is SolarPoweredHome. Why pay a huge amount like 00s for utilization of solar or wind power when you can have the opportunity to build your own home made solar system for less than 0. Thats right, there are guides that teach you everything you need to know about generating your own electricity by using wind and solar power. With the complete step-by-step setup fully illustrated manuals and easy to follow video instructions present in the guide you will be able to create renewable energy at home. Solar and wind power systems brought from the market costs higher but the guide and the program in it gives you the information that is required to get the same results at a tiny price. Once you have learned and ready to build and install your alternate power supply, you will save hundreds of dollars on your electricity bill. You need not have to build a 500 hundred foot high wind turbine to save lots of money on energy, a much smaller can be built by following the instructions present in the SolarPoweredHome kit. The
