    Would car batteries work?

  2. fencekid says:

yes, but they only hold a few amp hrs, compared to deep cycle batts

really like it. love ya work mate.

    Nice system and explanation.

    how much all this coast?

    Hi,
Nice system but you don’t pass the quality test in regards of well-finish. In other words, my wife would think that is a botch.

    Regards.

YouTube is not working. The video does not load up. What’s wrong?

  9. travelingoutskirts says:

works just fine for me – anywho, can you run multiple things off of it at once? or do you need a bigger inverter for that?

Tell her you’ll buy her something with the money you save! :)

  11. fastgmc says:

why dont you use 12 volt batteries?

Very cool demo of your solar power system. Have to agree with chemeitor1′s comment though, I wouldn’t get that past the wife as a finished installation either ;-)

    Good stuff nonetheless!

Very thorough explanation. Thank you very much. I’m looking at setting up an entire system when we build our new house (totally off grid). Solar energy will only be part of the mix, we’re also planning on using a water turbine. What type of appliances CAN’T you use when you’re on alternative power?? Thanks once again.

Hey nice job .I’m setting up a solar system at a remote Island in Canada it will be consisting of 10- 125ah batteries off eBay reg 300 a piece for 50=500 and 2 x120 watt solar panels for 800 of eBay a 3000 watt inverter for 180 off ebay and a 1500 watt wind turbine for 250 and all the cables 75 and power controler 30 so as all you can see with a little bit of knowledge you too can buy and save if you shop around go green from K.B IN MICHIGAN

Thanks for sharing this with us.
I have studied and researched for 2 years and now I am building my own system.
There is nothing wrong with a “hobbie that Pays for itself ”
I am ordering 2 small turbines 4 solar pannels and 2 -1500 watt inverters. 2 four battery banks @ 12 volts. 1 charger controller. and a $150 grid tie inverter as my dump load. a tiny 900 watt Gas powered generator for $120 new it rubs for 6 hours on 1 galon of gas to provide extra power and charge as needed

  18. x62617 says:

@getjagged what is the total cost for all that? Have you calculated how long it will take to make it back? thanks.

  19. getjagged says:

hi x626 I have a total of $2700 . that is a bargain for 900 – 2180 watts before inverters any time on demand. I’ll never pay $20 a day to run a large generator again. The pay off is about 3 years or as soon as you build if it is your hobbie : ) people like us will have power when the rest are scramling for gasoline & over priced generators that are loud and almost never pay for themselves unless you make $ by using it.

How much did the inverter cost?

  21. Aleziss says:

nice walkthrough of your system !

  22. johnnylifeson says:

    Very Good !!! 5 stars…

  23. Mysticmorris says:

liking the set up :) I firmly believe we ALL need to be doing this, If you had one side of the roof of your house covered in panels you would have all the energy you need.
The initial cost is the bummer, but i hope people learn to see the long term ecological and financial benafits of going off grid.

nice little setup you have there. Any upgrades since you installed it.

  25. CurrentlyDisconected says:

    nice setup man

kept it simple and easy to understand

going to build a silimar system myself however i was also going to add a wind turbine for the winter. Our winters are only 59 F or 15 oC on average.
